Jillian Downs

is a Los Angeles based artist and educator. Her process uses graphic tropes to shape forms, while avoiding being illustrative. Without a clear narrative, or subject matter, the onlooker can occupy viewership with freedom. The paintings require the viewer to take part in the process. Every scratch, brushstroke, color, and form is intentionalized. The viewer abandons the process, when the details are overlooked. The work demands a high level of patience.
